MIKAYLA NEWTON

News Anchor and Reporter | Author

Mikayla Newton is a reporter and weekend anchor for WDVM 25 News.


Before joining WDVM, Mikayla worked as the weekend morning anchor/reporter at WETM-TV in Elmira, New York. Prior to that, Mikayla freelanced for CNN as a Cross-Platform production assistant and associate producer for HLN. Newton interned at WAGA-TV, Atlanta’s second largest news station.


Born in Riverdale, Georgia, Mikayla graduated from Georgia State University where she received a B.A. in broadcast journalism with a minor in Spanish. There, she served as GSTV’s news director, anchor and reporter for their broadcast station, Panther Report Network. She received an award for ‘Best TV Journalist’ for the Southeastern Journalist Conference.


She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.


When she’s not working, she enjoys her time reading, writing, speaking at engagements, taking photographs, taping podcasts, making documentaries, and dedicates her time to serving the community.

Newton is the self-published author of Elevator Rides are Awkward: A Story about Social Media and the Generational Curse, a book about the effects of social media in the millennial age.
