Celebrating 35 Years of Service to Women & Girls in Washington County
The Commission for Women acts as a catalyst for change by educating the community on women's issues, promoting the role of women, advocating on behalf of women, and celebrating their accomplishments.
We partner with local government, non-profit organizations, academic institutions, and women-owned businesses in Washington County to provide resources that support the wellbeing of women and young girls.
In Fall 2021, the Commission for Women partnered with Girls Inc. of Washington County to lead interactive activities for 4th and 5th grade girls. Session topics included goal setting, mindfulness and self care, and building self esteem.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission for Women partnered with local financial planners and entrepreneurs to promote women's financial literacy.
The Maryland Commission for Women launched a survey to assess the impact of COVID-19 on women in Maryland. The Washington County Commission for Women shared the survey with women throughout the county.
The Commission for Women has hosted the Women's Empowerment Expo in partnership with the Washington County Free Library, Hagerstown Community College, women-owned small businesses, and women leaders in the community.
The Commission for Women developed Woman to Watch, an award to celebrate women making great strides in the local community in areas that impact women and young girls. Learn more about past award recipients.
For almost a decade, we hosted Circle of Sisters, an event to honor exemplary women in Washington County. The event included an academic scholarship for outstanding high school seniors. Learn more about past events.

The Washington County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants interested in serving on the Washington County Commission for Women. Applicants must be competent individuals who are familiar with the resources available for women and girls, as well as interested in providing assistance to promote the full and equal participation of women in work, government, and society. Applicants should be passionate about strengthening home and work life of women as wives, mothers, homemakers, workers, and individuals.
